Position Overview


The Production Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager and is a key leadership position that directs and is responsible for the fabrication, assembly and production operation. This position ensures that all daily activities for the assigned production value stream are customer focused and performed in a manner consistent with achievement of the plant vision and its goals and objectives. This position is a key decision maker and escalation point for value stream issues or decisions across the entire manufacturing operation. You will collaborate with engineering resources and other support functions (safety, quality, materials, inventory, etc) on short and long-term improvements to the manufacturing operation.


Duties and Responsibilities




  • Manufacturing:? Set & maintain priorities, vision, and leadership.


  • Plant Support:? Provide technical assistance & trouble shooting support to Materials, Quality, Engineering, Finance, Maintenance, Field Service, Shipping, and the Distribution Center.? Recommend raw material or component part substitutions and alternative methods of manufacturing. Travel or provide personnel to travel to customer locations, as required, for technical assistance or rework capabilities.? Ensure that cross training, continuing education is maintained for key salary and hourly personnel.


  • Brand Support:? provide technical assistance and manufacturing support to


  • Sales/Marketing and Design Engineering (new product development, design changes, National Accounts).


  • Cost reduction/Process improvement:? Identify & initiate manufacturing improvements.? Support engineering with cost reduction initiatives. Make necessary manning/overtime adjustments to support monthly production and shipping goals.


  • Database Clean-Up:? Assist Engineering/Materials/Finance with updating and improving the accuracy of BOM?s, planning parameters, manufacturing routers, manufacturing drawings, and SAP processes.


  • Authorization for Expenditure (AFE):? Assist Engineering in developing the justification/submittal of requests for new/replacement equipment or facilities.


  • Engineering Change (EC):? Assist Engineering/Materials in the justification, timely submittal, and implementation.


  • Tooling replacement/Service Contracts:? Review/approve tooling requisitions and equipment service contracts for the Manufacturing operation.


  • Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data; answering questions and responding to requests.


  • Approving timecards on weekly basis for hourly and salaried employees.


  • Approving vacation/personal days/emergency vacation days in light of the union contract.


  • Maintains working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.


  • Assist Human Resources in resolving personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.


  • Responsible for doing Behavioral Based Observation on a weekly basis.


  • Perform various other projects and/or assignments, as directed.

Skills and Experience




  • Prior experience is required in either:


  • Manufacturing/Production as either a supervisor or manager


  • Materials/Production Planning as either a supervisor or manager


  • Working knowledge of at least one of the following processes/equipment is required:


  • Lighting fixture manufacturing


  • Manual or automated assembly


  • Progressive dies or metal stamping


  • Metal fabrication (turret presses/brake presses)


  • Powder Coating/wet paint operation


  • Working knowledge of SAP is a plus.


  • Training and experience implementing LEAN manufacturing is a plus.


  • Prior experience in Maintenance & TPM implementation is a plus.

  • Demonstrated skill to read and understand basic manufacturing routers.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)



Education




  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering General
